Built for 100-degree days and dust on the wind.

Why coils matter here

An air conditioner can only cool as well as its coil breathes.

The outdoor coil is where your house or building gets rid of its heat. West Texas wind packs it with dust, grass and cottonwood fluff. A clogged coil can't shed heat, so pressures climb, cooling falls off and the compressor works harder — right when the afternoon is hottest.

Questions

What Abilene asks every June.

Why does my AC struggle on the hottest afternoons?

Often because the outdoor coil is clogged with dust, grass and debris. A dirty coil cannot shed heat, so pressures climb, cooling drops and the compressor works harder, sometimes until a safety switch shuts it off. Cleaning the coil is often the first fix.

How often should the outdoor coil be cleaned?

At least once a year before summer, and again after a bad dust storm or if the unit sits near a dirt road, a field or construction.

Can I hose off my outdoor unit myself?

A gentle rinse with the power off helps between visits. Never use a pressure washer, which flattens the fins, and do not open the unit. A proper cleaning washes the coil from the inside out.

Do you work on commercial buildings?

Yes, equally with homes. Rooftop units, split systems and metal-building shops across Abilene, repaired, maintained and replaced.

Does Diamond Crest do finishing or painting work?

No. “Finishes” is part of the name, not the trade. Diamond Crest is a heating, ventilation and air conditioning contractor only.
